Hi all,

I am getting the error "Faulting application snmp.exe, version 5.2.3790.0" in the application log on one of my DC's.

My SNMP service starts then immediately falls over giving the above error. There is also an event in system from the service control manager reading "The SNMP Service service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 6 time(s)"

Has anyone any ideas??

Server is an ML370 G4, running Win2003 standard, with the proliant support pack 7.20

Any help anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. >> Pulling ones hair out!!
I don't know why it would do this, but you might try replicating the system then removing the agents and see if it still happens. If it does, then remove anything else on the system that includes an SNMP extention agent (backup software usually does, for example.) Hopefully at some point you'll figure out what is related - the one you just removed and whatever is still there. Sometimes the SNMP service dies because a bad extention agent (usually forgetting to respond properly to a GETNEXT request beyond the end of the agent's range.)

Since we test the ProLiant agents on thousands of servers here I doubt it's them in general, but likely some interaction.

You might also study what changes have been made to the server recently.

Dawn,
I had a lot of problems when I installed the APC UPS 7.0.4! I could NOT uninstall the APC software, and at one point my CIMS server would not boot up. I finally booted into Safe Mode and from there I could disable the APC service. This fixed things until I had a chance to rebuild my server.
