topic Unknown / Unmanaged Devices in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

i have some trouble with devices that are shown as unknown or unmanaged. thats strange. i have checked the snmp settings and all nessecary mibs are installed. some of the servers are old ones like hp netservers but i don't think that is the problem some of the others are shown with the right system type. has anybody an idea about this? thanks a lot

Unmanaged means that it cannot talk to the SNMP Agent on the Server. Either SNMP is not running or there's a permissions issue or SNMP is configured to accept only certain hosts.
Unknown usually indicates that SNMP is there but it has not been able to determine what the device is. The returned info does not equate to one of the devices configured.

A number of protocols are tried, e.g. DMI, but SNMP is the most common cross platform identifier.

You can add devices to IM so that these other devices are identified. I do that to get various Sun Boxes identified.

Click on the device and the first page will give an indication of what it has used to interrogate the device.

Hi

Check your snmp-settings again...community-names are case-sensitive.

PUBLIC isn't the same as public.

//Johan
