VPM Generic Internal Error - changed FQDN

Hi all!

My SIM/VOM machine is running on DHCP.

It seems that the FQDN changed between installing SIM and VPM, since after successfully installing VPM this morning I get the error:

Unable to connnect to VPM scanner: "java.net.UnknownHostException: "

When I try to scan my machines.

Is there a way to change the stored FQDN for the scanner ???

Please notice that the current VPM versions doesn't support servers configured with DHCP. Anyway, if the IP address doesn't change very often, you can manually update the VPM configuration files ("simcredentials.xml" and "statcredentials.xml").

In order to do this, the files "simcredentials.xml" and "statcredentials.xml" will need to be manually updated according the steps below:

1) Go to the directory where VPM is installed (default is "C:\Program Files\HP\VPM"). Make a backup copy of the files "statcredentials.xml" and "simcredentials.xml" (ex: "statcredentials-backup.xml" and "simcredentials-backup.xml").

2) Edit file "statcredentials.xml" in the VPM directory (default is "C:\Program Files\HP\VPM") as follows:

2.1) Locate the definition "". This definition must be changed to new VPM server name. For example: "http://new-vpm-servername.domain.com/STATS canner/Update/ ".

2.2) Locate the definition "". This definition must be changed to new VPM server name. For example: "http://new-vpm-servername.domain.com/STATSca nner/Soapbox.dll?Handler=ScanEngine ".

2.3) Locate the definition "". This definition must be changed to new VPM server name. For example: "new-vpm-servername.domain.com ".

2.4) Locate the definition "". This definition must be changed to new VPM server IP address. For example: "192.168.0.1".

3) Edit file "simcredentials.xml" in the VPM directory (default is "C:\Program Files\HP\VPM") as follows:

3.1) Locate the definition "". This definition must be changed to new HP SIM server name. For example: "https://new-sim-servername.domain.com:50001/ mxsoap/services/MxpiMain4_2".

3.2) Locate the definition "". This definition must be changed to new HP SIM server name. For example: "new-sim-servername.domain.com ".

3.3) Locate the definition "". This definition must be changed to new HP SIM server IP address. For example: "192.168.0.1".

4) Copy the updated "statcredentials.xml" and "simcredentials.xml" to the "STATConfigurations" directory *inside* the SIM directory (default is "C:\Program Files\HP\Systems Insight Manager\hpwebadmin\webapps\ROOT\mxportal\home\STATConfigurat ions".

7) Reboot the server.

Note: If VPM and HP SIM are installed in the same server, the names "new-vpm-servername.domain.com" and "new-sim-servername.domain.com" are actually the same.
