I am setting up HPSIM, and I have installed the VCR on the same server as Insight Manager.

When I select Version Control Repository I get "Error retrieving catalog. Be sure a trust relationship is established with the repository device" under contents of selected version control repository. Trusted is set to no, however when I click "configure" IE displays "the page cannot be displayed" error.

Any advice would be helpful, thanks.

Try accessing the agent UI directly through http://SERVERNAME:2301. Hopefully you pre-configured a password so you can login.

Are the Insight agents already on the box? One thing that is different on the hpSIM install from the way IM7 was is that the Insight agents aren't installed at the same time.

You may want to get the latest ProLiant Support Pack and apply it. Don't forget to pre-configure the passwords, etc, in the Foundation agent, though.

I'm fairly new to Insight Manager, so some of what you said are things that I'm not aware of..

I did try to access the the server on port 2301 and it generates the same "page cannot be displayed" error. Should the IM server be listening on both 50000 for IM and 2301 for it's own systems management home page?

There are half a dozen or so agents running on the server, including the foundation agent. I don't really follow "configuring passwords in the foundation agents"

Insight Manager is the gather of info and listens on port 50000.
The Agents run on all servers and are split into a number of functions, but the requests are all handled on http/https 2301/2381.

On the IM Server, you'll want to ensure you've installed the latest Agents (7.00A), the easiest way to do this is download the entire softpaq and run setup.exe. Before you install everything you can configure the Agents with password and Trust information. Install the softpaq, You may need a reboot here.

You should then be able to browse to https://localhost:2381 which will then bring up the device page.
Under links, there should be a link to the VCRM. Here you will configure the VCRM Catalog directory.
The structure I use is a top level VCRM Directory that I point the VCRM to and then a series of sub-directories for each of the softpaq versions, plus a directory for non-softpaq material.

Dan, I think the point that previous posters are trying to make is (and I could be wrong here) that the SIM4.1 install does not ensure the latest Management Pack is installed. You probably need to install the latest Support Pack for your server, which I believe is 7.10a right now.

I think the problem is that the documentation tells one to proceed through several steps and then you are supposed to go to the IM server and deploy the initial install, the problem being that it keeps coming back with the afore mentioned error and prohibits the continued installation to the client.
