The risk is low.
They either import or not. They're pretty separate, so don't tend to conflict.

Is this where you found all of the Cisco MIB's.

http://www.cisco.com/public/sw-center/netmgmt/cmtk/mibs.shtml

Because I am finding about 50 different MIB's per Cisco device, and even then, there is V1 and V2. So I don't really know where to start

I have imported several mib files into SIM with no issues. I would say that the risk is minimal.

I did initially have difficulties getting the compile to work. The key is to place the mib files that you want to compile into the \Systems Insight Manager\mibs folder before you compile them.

You may also run into issues where a mib will not compile. SIM has some requirements for mibs that you can find in SIM Help. I have also found that mibs can often have syntax errors in them that prevent proper compilation. I have used a 3rd party mib compiler called MGSoft to try and compile a mib first. If there are errors, the compiler will give you the error and the line number.

I have tried to install just a simple MIB, and it is asking for other MIBs that are in the MIB directory. I placed the MIB in the MIB directory with the other MIB's and try and compile, and this is the error message that I recieve...
Line: 0: Failure to open input file C:\Program
Mib compilation failed.

I has issues with the space in between Program and Files

Eric,

That is one place to get the mibs. There is usually a zip file with all the mibs associated with a device...and yes there are a lot per cisco device.

It would be nice if HP would include a lot more third party mibs by default...like all the cisco and 3Com and Nortel mibs.
