ProLiant 100 series lack the advanced management features of ProLiant 300/500/700 series and BladeSystem blades. This is one of the 'frills' eliminated in providing a low-cost system.

HP SIM can get up/down status information from a 100 series server through ping and SNMP polling. Detailed information about the hardware configuration can be gotten through WBEM/WMI. In System Protocol Settings, make sure you configure credentials for WBEM/WMI for this unit.

Learn more from http://www.hp.com/sbso/productivity/howto/it_insightmanager/infrastructure.html and also http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim --> Information Library --> "Getting started with HP SIM 5.0 in a smaller Windows environment" on page 7.

We've been deploying HP DL100 NAS devices and have just got around to adding them to SIM via manual discovery. I've setup SNMP on them, but they don't seem to want to be anything more than "Unmanaged."

Can't seem to find any reference to installing Management Agents on them. Pushing a Support Pack fails, as the OS is not supported.

Any Clues?

It seems really lame for HP to not provide a method to manage any of the DL-100 Series. I have several DL-140 and was shocked to discover they can not be monitored directly. Shame on HP!

I guess, you get what you pay for.

I figure that WBEM will probably provide enough inf if I can get it to work. I've configured the WBEM password in global protocol settings then went to each DL100 and under computer management adjusted the WMI control security settings per the mentioned docs. Still shows as an unknown device even after a new discovery. Any further info?

thanks..

Roy, while it's true that the ProLiant 100 series does not provide the same level of manageability that the 300/500/700 and BladeSystem servers do, it is far from being able to be labeled 'unmanageable.' The ProLiant 100 series has a "meet competition" purpose and provides similar levels of manageability to our competitors. We're giving you the choice to prioritize your needs and purchase accordingly.

Kim, some things to check on during your troubleshooting:

- Pegasus WMI mapper installed and running
- HP SIM having an entry for the WMI mapper properly in protocol settings
- no underscores in host names

If you're still having trouble, something to try is to install the WMI mapper on the DL 100 storage server and configure HP SIM with its location.
