Hi,

we're monitoring about 2500 servers.
There is also 1 task that runs regularly to close "buggy" error events.
The VCA itself it located on the same server.

Regards
Thorsten Schmitt

Hi,
after upgrading the Support Pack to 7.40 on my Central SIM Server (5.0) my VCA does nto work anymore and I get timeouts accessing the System Management Homepage.
When I start the SMH I received the following error:
"a timeout occured while loading data for the HP System Management Homepage which may result in missing or incomplete information. See the HP System Management Homepage Log for additional information"
But the log does not contain any information :-(
After confirming the message, the SMH is displayed corectly.

when I try to access the VCA site, nothing happens. It tries to open /CGI and in taskmanager I see many cmd.exe + cgi processes but nothing happens.

I'm running a DL 380 G3 4 GB RAM, MS SQL 2000, W2K3 SP1 and the SIM 5.0 on this server. The server is under heavy CPU load because of the SIM.
Any ideas?
Thanks and Regards
Thorsten Schmtit

I'm not aware of any 7.40 VCA issues specifically.
How many Servers is HPSIM monitoring, we monitor around 160 devices on a dl380 g3, but the database is external. Neither is showing high CPU loads. That may be the root of the problem.
Check if there's a number of tasks executing in HPSIM.

Have you tried just bouncing the VCA service? Is this a VCA on the HP SIM server itself or a managed node?

If on a managed node, make sure you can browse to the VCRM on the HP SIM server (http://simserver:2381) and go to VCRM.
If the VCRM is not responding, this can happen too.

What's worse is i have gone back to 7.30 and now have the same problem with that as well. I hope someone can think of something that can help with this because i am all out of ideas.

Thanks in advance!!!

"C:\hp\hpsmh\logs\error_log" check this file, in VCRM system, this will show the reason for "Timeout" error,

if it is because of VCRM, then check windows Taskmanager for any "exe" file named "PSP******.exe" running for long time
if it is running then
1) stop the VCRM service
2) Terminate that "PSP*****.exe"
3) goto VCRM repository folder and delete the same file named "PSP*******.exe"
4) start the VCRM service.

or if the Timeout is because of VCA, then make sure VCA configurations are ok

Hi

the timeout problems and problems with the VCA are resolved with the brandnew SMH version 2.1.3.132 (21 Sep 05)
It can be found here:
http://h18004.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23560.html

Regards
Thorsten Schmitt

I just found that although the new SMH Ver .132 resolves the timeout for W2003 servers I still have the timeout problem with W2k servers.

I've just found that if you add the following reg entry it resolves this problem.
Might be worth it until they fix it properly.

Key:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\cpqvcagent\DependOnService

Type: Reg_Multi_SZ

Value: SysMgmtHP

It delays the VCAgent service from starting until the SMH service is fully started

Hope it helps

Tony
