Just an FYI for anyone that runs into this. You should also do the same procedure on the "Hardware status for non servers" job because that job has the same problem, and known servers may become "unknown" when they are down and the data collection has run on that server.

I have my SIM ICMP set to ping, and 10s timeout 10 retries...yet after a server of ours was down for over three hours, SIM still showed it green.

What gives?
I'm having this same problem. Major and Minor server problems are being reported correctly, but down servers that should report as Critical are not, they are staying Green. I have servers that are powered OFF, and SIM shows them GREEN forever.

Is your install an upgrade? Mine was a 4.2 to 5.0 upgrade, this could be a possible database problem. Definately a big problem though, we need to fix this ASAP.

In all cases reported to date the problem has been resolved by going to Tasks and Logs --> View All Scheduled Tasks. Selecting the "Hardware Status Polling for Servers" task, clicking edit and stepping through all the screens but making no changes. After clicking done the task should work correctly.

Was this a fresh install of SIM 5 or an upgrade from 4.x? I assume an upgrade. From what version though (4.1, 4.2, 4.2 SP2, etc.).

thanks.

The problem has only be observed on upgrades from 4.2 --> 5.0. Not sure if they were from 4.2 or 4.2 SP2 and the problem does not occur on every upgrade.
