For the software status to get updated you need VCA installed on the managed node and the same has to point to a valid repository(VCRM). Having done that, you'll have to run the Sofware status polling task for the status to get updated.

I have just installed SIM 4.2 on a DC7100c workstation. THe software has managed to collect hardware information on my workstation, but it has not collected any software. How do I go about doing that? Does have to do anything with HP Version Control Repository Manager? Do I need to install a VCP agent?

Thanks, thought that was what needed to be done. Well the next question is then, are the agents for a particular workstation/server? I tried to install an agent just earlier an it refused to install. My management workstation is a DC7100c.
Thanks a lot again!

HP currently provides Management Agents are supported only for servers. For Workstations and Desktops you'll have to either use the WBEM protocol (WMI in windows) or you have to go to the HP Client Management Infrastructure. The same provides a HPSIM connector which inturn helps HPSIM manage desktops. To know more about the HP Client Management Infrastructure visit http://www.hp.com/go/easydeploy

Hope this helps.
