Got this link from our HP technician, this is great news and we'll put it on our test server as soon as we get hold of it.

Do you happen to have any information whether this update will include any changes to the VCRM, specifically whether it will allow IP binding in the VCRM so it does not bind to the first/lowest IP adress on the server but rather a specific adress instead ? We're really hoping for this since it's an issue causing a problem in clustered setups.

Regarding the question around VCRM. There are no changes to VCRM in this release. The issue you are talking about is a System Management Homepage problem that was addressed in a recent web release, it can be found here:

http://h18023.www1.hp.com/support/files/server/us/download/23560.html

The SMH should default bind to all available IP addresses when it starts up, it has configuration settings that allow you to bind to specific addresses instead of all of them, if you wish.

-Rich

Rich, you're incorrect there, I've already applied the SMH patch, and it does not affect the VCRM issue I'm seeing, the VCRM ignores the IP binding settings set in the SMH.

However I'm having a case reported on this and two HP technicians working on it, I just wanted to check whether there was any specific VCRM update, thanks anyway.

There isn't an upgrade kit for SP2 because most of the issues fixed are around installation - if you have 5.0 installed, you don't need SP2.

Let me address each specific release note:

* Includes SP1 updates for HP Storage Essentials 5.0

These changes are ONLY for Storage Essentials - if you have SE then you already have SP1 (it was installed along with it) and that's all you need.

* Fixes an installation problem when a NTLMv2 Windows security policy is enabled and the installer will not connect to the database.

This is one of the installation problems - this policy wasn't one we had set but we now realize that Microsoft recommends it. Anybody else feel like there are WAY too many policies?

* Fixes a loss of trust issue when connecting to the System Management Homepage. This was a timing issue that was seen on some platforms

This is a trust issue that isn't very common - if you have it through, call into HP support and we'll get you a hotfix. Because this problem is so rare, we didn't feel everybody needed the fix. Note that if you have this problem you know it - your systems all lose trust and they won't return. If you're running HPSIM5 now and don't have the problem, you aren't going to see it.

* Fixed an problem with using special characters (:;\) in the password

There is a typo in this note, it should read "Fixed an installation problem with using special characters in the password." This is one of those install problems I mentioned.

* Updates to several help files

These updates fix either minor typos or were updated to add the SP1 SE content - you already have these if you have SP1.

* The web download kit will now include the HP ProLiant Essentials Virtual Machine Management Pack v2.0.1, HP ProLiant Essentials Server Migration Pack v2.01, and HP ProLiant Essentials Performance Management Pack v4.0.1.

These packs are all available seperately and wouldn't be included in an upgrade anyway. I HIGHLY recommend upgrading to PMP 4.0.1 if you use that tool - it addresses some significant issues (like the loss of license problem.)
