HP SIM - Version Control Repository installation error (MSXML3.0 SP4)

When installing the various components of HP SIM from the typical installation, evrything installs sucessfully excpet the VCR. See the attached screenshot that references the error ...any ideas why?

I have also manually installed the Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 4 (SP4), but I still get the same error (see attached screenshot).

I have IE6 SP1 installed.
Running Windows 2000 Server.

One thing to try (because you may get some more informative messages) is to run setup.exe from the ProLiant Support Pack on that machine. It also uses the MSXML code and if it runs into a problem you may get a better diagnostic.

Were you successful and then are getting the error when installing VCRM?

I was successful in installing the MSXML manually, but I still get the same error when installing the VCRM.

Bottom line: when the VCRM install asks the OS if MSXML is installed, it's getting a response that makes it seem like it's not installed. When it tries to then go and install, the install failed.

My best suggestion at this point would be to install VCRM on another system. It doesn't have to be co=resident on the hpSIM server.

I agree with you, the VCRM does not necessary have to be installed on the HP SIM server.

But since this is one of the many REQUIREMENTS of my client (VCRM and HP SIM installation on ONE server), I do not have the option to install the VCRM on a different server than the HP SIM server!

I just would like to know if this is a "HP VCRM bug" or not? If it is I have to open a case at HP?

In my opinion, we won't be able to drive to a conclusion in this forum. So, yes, if a resolution (rather than workaround) is your requirement, please open a case.

I get this exact message (and the same symptoms) when trying to upgrade to 2.0.7.10. Has anybody found a solution to this issue?

I found the work around.

1. Extract the VCRM to a c:\temp folder
2. Find the enu folder for the XML 3 parser
3. Click on the msxml3.msi file
4. It will ask you for a path to the files if the original version is corrupt (which was my case)
5. Choose the new file
6. Once complete you can now install the VCRM without a problem....
