Hi Rancher,

One tip I can give you is to image the server prior to the upgrade. I use TrueImage from Acronis, but Symantec Ghost or other product would work just as well.

My first attempt blew everything up, but using TrueImage I was able to go back to the image I created right before the upgrade and try again. After correcting the problem, my second attempt to upgrade worked fine.

My problem was I was using an account different from the account I had used to originally install the product.

So another piece of advice would be to make sure you login for the upgrade with the same account that you used to install the original product.

Good luck
(TrueImage is the bomb! I would be in a world of hurt without it).
Nelson

After reading about all of the issues with 5.0, and having some issues myself, I would like some advice on the best way to upgrade to this version.

I am currently running 4.2 on a BL 20p G2 with Windows 2003. Recently I upgraded the agents to 7.40 on the Sims server and somehow lost contact with all of my Ilo's. The Riloe's are showing just fine. I rolled back to 7.30 but this did not fix the missing Ilo's. For clarification purposes, if I go to the server homepage, the Ilo is there, just not on the All Systems page.

I also applied an HP patch to my Sims server, after which I could not even log into Insight Manager. It reported that Java was not installed. I could never fix this and had to reinstall the Insight Manager software.

For secutiy resons, I would also like to change the SNMP community strings. So far, I have had no luck with that either.

The system is stable, but I am not sure of its reporting reliabliity at this point.

Should I upgrade, or wipe everything clean and do a fresh install from the ground up? Also, if this step is taken, are there any tips/tricks that would make setting up 5.0 any differnt from 4.2? (I have read the documentation.)
