Hi

We currently running 4.1 sp1 installation on one server.
I would like to move to a new server with the latest version, is it easier to reinstall from scratch or migrate from the old server?

Apart from the lists of devices there is nothing much I have configured on the old server

Hi Mike,

I found it easier just installing from scratch and doing a re-discovery - I guess it would depend on how much configuration you'd done to both the CIM and the agents..
Importing the new certificate was the most problematic as the config/repair agents option didn't always work..
But it wasn't a major hassle =)

c~

From your description I'd say a fresh install of HPSIM SP3 would be the best approach.

As Craig mentioned, the Trust Certificate will change and so that will need to be redeployed if you use Trust By Certificate.

If the Server itself changes then you may need to check the SNMP Settings on the Client Servers. The VCA Settings may also need to change.

Hi Mike,

We were on 4.2 and I migrated to 5.0 (both on HP-UX) and quite frankly it wasn't successful!

We lost all the old events and now the database doesn't backup amongst other things. Don't get me wrong, SIM has tremendous potential. But, unfortunately I have to agree with the two posters above... start from scratch... it's the only way you can guarantee a clean install!

It's really not fair to offer an upgrade option which doesn't work and I have to say we're a little disappointed with HP on this. I prefer to have an older less feature rich product which works than a shiney new one which doesn't.

Just to add a little light in this thread. We successfuly upgraded from a 4.2 install to 5 with no problems, everything was working perfectly.
