      <description>Automatic discovery give you a choice of either an ICMP ping or a port 80 request.  It will run through all of the addresses you supply looking for a response.  If there is a response, the identification process takes over, basically playing '20 Questions' with the device to figure out what it is and what protocols are available.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If you do a manual discovery, the identification process runs as well.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;I think you're really asking about identification, so what are you trying to figure out?</description>

      <description>No, just wondering what processes take place. Would this be an accurate assesment?&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;If there is a response, then an identify task is performed.&lt;BR /&gt;&lt;BR /&gt;In other words, is there any difference between running an identify on an item and having its ip contained in automatic discovery, when the item is aleady in SIM?&lt;BR /&gt;</description>
