We have installed HPSims 5 on a windows 2003 box. it is sitting behind a firewall. we are trying to monitor servers sitting behind other firewalls. i have open the following ports between the 2 firewalls icmp, 2301, 2381, 161, 22,5989 and 162.

When i do a discovery it finds the servers with there private IPs (not public which i want) but doen't display any server information such as make and model. I also cannot get ssh to work from the client. i have used the install openssh from the hpsims server and it fails on installation.

Am i doing something incorrect or missing anything? are there extra ports i may need to open? Any pointers would be appreciated.

On the discovery issue, make sure your CMS server can ping the IPs with which you want your servers to be recognized. It will discover them with whichever IPs it can see. Also, be sure your DNS, lmhosts files point to the IPs you want to use.

On the SSH issue, be sure you have SSH port 22 open in the direction you are trying to connect and be sure you are allowing the right version. For example, your firewall may only be allowing SSH version 2 and you are trying to use version 1. Connect to SSH on the same subnet from another host and be sure SSH is working at all and then try through the firewall. This will determine if it is related to OpenSSH or the firewall. Hope this helps.
