topic Cannot integrate OpenView and SIM for ProLiant snmp traps in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

We successfully use Compaq’s System Insight Manager (SIM) to manage ProLiant hardware, but we want to integrate with OV NNM and OVO, and cannot follow HP advice in http://www.managementsoftware.hp.com/products/ovowin/twp/ovowin_twp_hpsim_integration.pdf saying to use WIN OS SPI, because
• SLES9 cannot run trapi
• Installing WIN OS SPI trap templates on hpux OVO server causes errors Can’t convert configuration file (OpC30-114) syntax error in pattern definition “<<#> -eq 4”. Eventually trapi dies. Can this syntax be fixed? The downloaded trap shows $5 "<<#> -eq 4>" – isn’t that valid?
• Yes I have the latest WIN OS SPI v8.80, pulled down from evaluation site.
Does anyone know a method for catching snmp traps sent from proliant boxes running Linux? Alternatively we configured cma.conf to send hardware alarms to /var/adm/messages, but we don’t have a logfile template with detail to recognize hardware alarms.
Thanks for any advice
- John
