Can someone send me a link that would help me to get start with Version Control Repository Manager? Will this be a centralized place where I can put firmware and software drivers on one server then push it out to other servers? looking for documentation on how this all works.

Thank you

running HPSIM 5 with Service Pack 5

Yes, you can place the HP software - drivers/fw/agents/utilities - that you want to deploy in the repository. In fact, you can configure the repository to automatically download software updates for your servers from HP's ftp site into the repository. It is not so a much a "push" as a coordinated "pull" from the target servers - hence the VC Agent on each server requires configuration with System Management Homepage credentials for accessing the repository. Here are some documents that should help:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00293375/c00293375.pdf

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00210167/c00210167.pdf

The first link is the installation information - the 2nd is the users guide including information on how to use it with HPSIM.

-Rich

Thanks a lot for the information.

I think I got the repository Manager setup correctly. How does the software/firmware get to the servers if they don't have it. Does an Admin has to start the process? Does it require a reboot right afterwards?
You can configure HPSIM to pull down everything.

This is done by accessing Version Control Repository Manager. You can find it from System Management Homepage of server where it is installed.
Once you access VCRM choose CATALOG tab and then on the left side there should be a choice "update from hp.com now".

You can also schedule this download from HOME tab and "configure the repository and automatic update settings"

Start what process? Installing? Installation is done only if Administrator or user with that level credentials starts the process and yes a reboot is required if all components of PSP are installed. Single componenets may not need reboot, but reboot is recommended.

Rgds,

Albert

For getting software installs kicked off you use HPSIM. There is a Deploy menu, from there you go to "Deploy Drivers, Firmware and Agents". There is an option called "Install Software and Firmware" - that uses the Version Control respository and VC Agent. The "Initial Proliant Support Pack Install" option can be used but it doesn't technically use Version Control, just the repository, as the name indicates it is more for an initial PSP deployment.

The HPSIM help and documentation should have more information on how to use this also.

-Rich
