Hi, i have installed all the agents necessary in Linux Es 3 but i dont receive any notification in the Insight Manager (just the cold start event if i restar the snmpd). If i do a "lsmod" i dont have the drivers mencioned in the manual do i need to install Proliant Support Pack for linux so the agents could work ?

For ex. if i do a system shutdown i dont receive any event (just the system unreacheable)

Do i need to put some files in the /usr/local/mibfiles ??

Thanks in advance...

Yes I believe you need to install PSP on the server by which you could more detailed information and alerts from various agents. Best way would be to configure System Management Homepage and Version Control Agent before you install the pack.

Hi, Im not a Linux expert but from what I understand you need to obtain the RPM file. Check the below links may be of some help.

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00067308/c00067308.pdf?jumpid=reg_R1002_USEN

http://gentoo-wiki.com/HOWTO_Use_Hpasm

Luis:

You're looking at an old version of the paper. Find updated documentation from the link http://www.hp.com/go/proliantlinux --> ProLiant + Linux Documentation

In 7.1.1 and later the 'hpasm' package was rewritten to take it out of kernel space and put it in user space. That's why the lsmod doesn't show anything. The newer version of the paper eliminates that instruction.

If you just installed those two rpm's then you probably don't have all the items loaded. That's why the PSP is delivered so that you can all the right drivers, agents, etc. that are a tested set. Also for the NIC, is it an HP NIC (embedded/standup)or another vendor?

Sending traps requires confiuration of SNMP on the linux server. I actually found a great article from another hardware vendor on configuring SNMP.

The main thing to send a trap to an management station is to add the following line to /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

trapsink ipaddress communityname.
