SIM5 is identifying desktops/workstations as servers

Does anyone know why SIM identifies desktops as servers? And more importantly, how I can make it identify them correctly?

Hello Ted,

Not too sure why.
Is it after a discovery or data collection?
Stop the SNMP service,set it to a manual startup.
Run a Discovery/Collection and check if its identified correctly.

Stop SNMP service on which machine...the SIM server or the desktop machine that I'm trying to corrrectly ID?

Preferably on the desktop.

I tried this. I stopped the SNMP service on the affected desktop and set it to manual. Then I deleted and readded the machine name in SIM. WORKED LIKE A CHARM.

Oops...not working again. On Friday, I removed all misidentified desktops and ran a routine to set all the desktop's SNMP to manual. I did not manually readd because I new a discovery would automatically run on Saturday. I came in this morning and I found all those desktops were readded as servers again! So back to Raman's original reply I guess it's during data collection (not discovery) when they get misidentified. HELP!

1.SIM discovery page(list of managed nodes).
2.Page where desktops are seen as servers.

Hello Ted,

Check if SNMP Security is set to 'Accept SNMP packets from any host'.
If not,change it and see if it helps.
