HP SIM and MSA 1500

Hi Forum,

We use the HP SIM 5.0.
All Servers are monitored, but we did not get any alerts from the MSA.
All servers having a SAN drive have the secure path 4.0 installed.
But we did not get any activities from the SAN monitored by the HP SIM.

How do we have to configure the SAN or the servers in order to get informations.

The MSA is monitored by the Storage agents (part of the PSP -Proliant Support Pack) on the servers attached to the MSA. If there is a problem with the MSA the Servers Storage Agent will detect it. When SIM polls that server, it will show a problem with the server in the console and provide a notification if configured properly.

Hi Martin,

in our case the monitoring of the servers took place but there were no entries in the SIM when polling the servers.
We had one failure in one Cache-module, which courses a no function off the whole MSA 1500. So no Server was able to reach the SAN. As we have a mirrored SAN all Servers work fine at first. The one SAN did not have any function at all. We had errors on the OCD but the volumes were not active. There were no events reported on the SIM from any server.

Hi all!
Well, I have installed the SMI-S provider without a hitch. UNfortunately, I can't tell what it did :-).
Obviously, HP-SIM cannot show me the MSAs (I have a 1000 and a 1500) since there is no SNMP builtin the MSAs. I was hoping I could have an indication specific to MSA in here.
Under the SMH of the server I installed SMI-S on, I do not see me anything more than what it did before with the Storage Agent. So under the Storage System Information for each MSA, I see the 2 controllers, physical drives, logical drives and external storage boxes.
What is unfortunate is not being able to know right off the bat that the problem we see for a server could be related to the MSA as opposed to, for example, a Management Processor which we don't use (but obviously, will still need to configure to get rid of the Minor Warning).
