I have HP BL-10e server setup with CIM 6.4 agents. I have a read community string and a read-write community string setup. The CIM7 server will not discovery the device. I have verified the SNMP service(port 161) is listening for both community strings, but after 48 hours and at least 5 discovery attempts, the server does not appear in the CIM7 database. Any ideas?

Oops! My mistake.

I kicked off a discovery around 4 hours ago.
I turned discovery filters off. Limited the discovery to one (5.1.6.1 - 5.1.6.254) specific IP range and still no luck.

Additionally, I can ping the device(5.1.6.77) from the IM 7 server.

When you say it doesn't appear in the CIM Database, what do you mean?

Does it appear on the IM Home Page, and just for added info, have you configured the Home Page to display all Devices? The default is Servers (IIRC), so it may be being discovered but just not displayed.

Also, it will not show up in the Reports immediately as these are only populated by default every two weeks.

It doesn't show on the homepage or when I perform a query for all devices.

And another thing, I configured server back in February , the server was on site for about 45 days. The server is now at a co-location site waiting to mounted and brought back online. This server appeared on the homepage today after I ran a discovery. Is our configuration screwed or what????

I have found that when one of my servers only has a forward lookup in the DNS but not a reverse then it is not being descovered. As soon as I created the reverse lookup I was able to get a server added.

I must say though that I find it frustrating that there is no log file to search through when trying to work out why sometimes a server will not go into the Insight DB.

Good luck
Steve Walker
JMU
