We have had an odd thing happening recently. In the last two weeks, we had 3 hard drives fail in three different servers (ML370 G4's and one Proliant 3000).

When we replaced the drives, the physical drive shows fine, but the logical drive seems to hang before rebuilding.

The Windows Event Viewer shows the following:
Event Type: Information
Event Source: CPQCISSE
Event Category: None
Event ID: 24598
Description:
Logical Drive 1 of
Array Controller in slot 4 has changed from status code 0 to status code 4.
Status Codes:
0 = OK
1 = FAILED
2 = NOT CONFIGURED
3 = INTERIM RECOVERY MODE
4 = READY FOR RECOVERY
5 = RECOVERING
6 = WRONG PHYSICAL DRIVE REPLACED
7 = PHYSICAL DRIVE NOT PROPERLY CONNECTED
8 = HARDWARE IS OVERHEATING
9 = HARDWARE HAS OVERHEATED
10 = EXPANDING
11 = NOT YET AVAILABLE
12 = QUEUED FOR EXPANSION
13 = UNKNOWN

Insight shows the drive is ready for rebuild.
The only way we can clear this is with a reboot. We have not seen this until now.
Any ideas why this has started happening?
We had the same probleme, the only way we resolve this,with ou finding why it did..is 1_We remove all hard drive rebooted.
2_We added hard drive #1 and the rebooted.
3_We added hard drive #2 and the rebooted.
4_We added hard drive #3 and the rebooted.

This way were able to make hard drive rebuild one of them took 3 time before she work,GOOD LUCK!!

I'd certainly verify the firmware level on the Array Controller is the latest.
Not sure if you could use the Array Configuration utility to trigger the rebuild with having to do a reboot.
With the PL3000, that's quite old.

That is one of the first things that I thought about. All of the firmware is up to date.

I have not had a chance to do anything with it yet. This is a production server and I need to wait for our weekly maintenance window. This was cancelled last week due to the weather.
