Why does https://127.0.0.1:2381/ fail but if I manually change it to https://localhost:2381/ it works, this is when I use the HPSMH link on a servers desktop, I am sure I have seen this on here before but have searched and browsed and cannot find it.

Regards

Steve

Hi Rob, if I nslookup localhost, it just resolves to the IP address of our DNS server, which is one of our Alpha's. It's a very odd problem, I will continue digging and see if I can spot common factors between affected servers.
Thanks
Steve

Hi Steve,

Could you post some info on what is the OS of the server. If it's a windows box, have you tried pinging 127.0.0.1 from the command prompt? if it's a linux box try seeing if you have the localhost line configured in /etc/hosts file.

hope to hear from you soon.

Tneto

Sorry I probably left out some details here, its only on Windows servers (2000/2003) and its when I launch the local installation of the HP System Management Homepage not through HPSIM, so direct from the server using the desktop icon which points to https://127.0.0.1:2381

What does nslookup of 127.0.0.1 return, could you post the result?
just a guess, but in IE you can have the bypass proxy for local box checked.
If the name is an FQDN then it's not local, but a name like myserver will be considered local.
An nslookup of 127.0.0.1 returning a name like localhost.mycompany.com would not be considered local and would therfore go off to the DNS / Internet.
Other browsers don't have this and so there tends to be more attention paid to the bypass proxy lists.
