Hi guys, very boring question for you.
apologies, i'm completely new to SIM.
What needs to be in place for hardware monitoring to occur? is this part and parcel of the standard SIM agent install?
- I've installed HP SIM to a sever and deployed the agent across the network.
- I've put email notification in place.
I only want SIM as a warning for hardware issues servers might be experiencing. What else do i need to configure to set this running.
Like i say, sorry guys, i know this prob a very elementary question, but any help you coul give would be much appreciated. Also help tips are always welcome.
Thanks
1. Install SIM (You have already done this)
2. Install HP Management Agents on the system that you want to manage using SIM.
3. Discover the systems in SIM (Options->Discovery)
4. Group/organize the systems that are discovered in SIM as per your convenience. (Click on "Customize" link in the "Systems and Events Panel" and create "Collections" as required) -- This is not a must.
5. Create event filter settings if reqd. (Options->Events->Event Filter Settings)
6. Create the automatic event handling task and configure it to send you emails (Options->Events->Automatic Event Handling)

hey,

thanks for the great response.
so will HP SIM automatically monitor for hardware issues and throw up alerts?e.g if a fan fails etc. or do i need to configure event notifications specifically?

If you don't do anything you will have baseline warnings but most interessant is to set events on filesystems space for example and make it send a warning on you mailbox

Stoo, you might find the whitepaper, "Getting Started with HP SIM in a smaller Windows environment" to be a good guide to what to expect. Find it at http://www.hp.com/go/hpsim --> Information Library
