Hi Udo,
I have had the same problem in sim 5.0 and I solve it following the procedure below. I'm not sure this work also for 5.1.

check into /etc/opt/mx/config/globalsettings.props
if you can find this line:
MX_JVM_OPTS=-XX:MaxPermSize=96m

If there is not, try to insert it, restart sim and try to logging in.

If you still have problem, try to set the value to 128m.

luca
Hi,
to be sure the problem is the one I thought, check if in /var/opt/mx/logs/mxdomainmgr.<PROCESS_ID>.out you can find something like this:
----------
Runtime Error in generating [an object in the screen]
Exception: java.lang.OutOfMemoryError: PermGen space.
Cause: null.
Message: PermGen space.
----------
If yes, I'm quite sure you have to increase the Java VM memory inserting the line below:

MX_JVM_OPTS = -XX:MaxPermSize=96m

into /etc/opt/vse/vseprefs.props

Restart SIM. If you still have problem set the value to 128m instead of 96m.

If it works I think I deserve some points, don't you think so? :))))

good luck!
luca
</PROCESS_ID>

Is the 5th from the bottom.

However taking a look on your log, it seems to be a PAM authentication problem.

Take a loof of paragraph "Login Authentication on Linux and HP-UX" of "HP Systems Insight Manager Technical Reference Guide".

http://www.hp.com/wwsolutions/misc/hpsim-helpfiles/sys-book.pdf

regards....have you to pay something for each assigned points? :))))

Luca

SIM on 64bit linux isn't really supported. The main issue you are having is that SIM is looking for the 32bit PAM version/path for authentication. I'll have to check the workaround for getting you up and running and will post that out.

Darrin: Have you found a workaround for this problem?

As far as I can see in the support matrix SLES10 on AMD64 is supposed to be working (although it did mention Automatic install doesn't work, but doesn't really matter to me).

I'm having exactly the same PAM problem here, a solution without forcing me to go 32bit (as it technically cannot be done in my environment) would come in great.
