It sounds like SNMP is not configured correctly on your servers to communicate with SIMS.

HP SIM exclusively uses DNS for name resolution so make sure forward and reverse lookups are correct. Your ability to ping a server by name may be due to WINS and HP SIM does not use that.

Hi, in same cases you need also to enable firewall ports in order to let the managed systems to talk to CMS.
Take a look of this doc:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bc/docs/support/SupportManual/c00210041/c00210041.pdf

also this can help you to close some FW ports that are not necessary to open :)

regards
Luca

Hi All,

Thanks for the reply however i dont know if have explained my self clear enough.

Lets try this way.

I have a local lan with 100 HP Servers these servers have been rolled out since the start of Windows 2003, every server has been rolled out using HP Smart Start CD. Some have been updated with the latest HP Support packs however some have the original HP Support Pack for windows 2003.

What i need to understand and learn is exactly what needs to be done on these servers so i can view and manage them in the SIM server.

I'm getting extremly confiused with regards to WBEM user names etc, what do i need to put in or where do i configure these, please remember all these servers are not in one Windows Domain.

Thanks guys,

Roger
