Got a little bit of a strange problem. Systems Manager works fine on the box its installed on, but whenever you try to use a browser from a remote machine (Internet Explorer in our case) it works the first time, after installing the java engine, but subsequently you get the sign on screen, and after you log on just get a page cannot be found.... the subject bar is

https://managementpc2.ttgroup.int:50000/j_security_check;jsessionid=D98AD6D30C46316DF4443134E195D75A

not sure if that is relevant or not.

Thanks for your help

If you are attempting to connect using that entire string as a URL, that is the problem. The session ID is only valid for the session it is established for; any subsequent connections gets a new session ID.

Connect using (from your example) https://managementpc2.ttgroup.int:50000 That's the entry point to hpSIM and it will establish a session ID for that particular session and provide it automatically.

Sorry, didn't explain it clearly! I'm going to the initial login page, entering my user/password/domain, clicking on the secure login, and then its coming up with the page cannot be found. The text i pasted above was what SIM is putting into the address bar, i didn't know if it was relevant or not.

Hi James,

I am investigating the same problem.
On my Management WS i can login correctly.
When i am on a VPN connection to the office it does not work, i get the same message. Network connection is not a problem because everything is working fine (except..). I can use terminal server etc.

When i am on the office again (tuesday)i can use both the VPN and direct connection to solve the issue.

Cheers Peter

Not sure whether mine is the same or not. Its obviously a Java problem because if i remove it, and let SIM reinstall it, will owkr fine, until i log off, then we're back to the original problem.

I've not seen this, but I have seen Java mentioned.

Try clearing the Java Caches, they survivie reboots etc. They can cause lingering odd behaviour.
Accessible either via right clicking the Java Icon or going via Control Panel.

Also, what version of the JRE are you running. I've updated to 1.4.2_04 and that works fine.
One thing to check would be your browser settings themselves (pure spectulation here; we haven't seen this before). Got to Tools/Internet Options/Settings (under Temporary Internet Files) and make sure "every visit to the page" is checked. That way the browser will load a new page and not use any type of cached information.

Thanks for the suggestion, but afraid it hasn't made any difference. Its as if the java engine only works once, but i've no idea why. If I remove it, load the login page again, allow to install and login it will work...... but then tomorrow, or even later today when i try to log in again it doesn't. Is there some sort of cache within the java app?

Cheers, James

I have also had this problem past, on another installation of SIM. The current installation does not have the problem. When I rebooted the SIM server I could connect again but after some time it stopped working again and I could only open SIM on the SIM server itself.
I was having the problem in a test environment wich has been uninstalled now. Never got around to looking for the exact problem. :(

We've not been able to reproduce this situation. Can you go into Control Panel/Java Plugin and Clear the cache (there is a button on the Cache tab)? Once done, also on the system having the browser trouble, delete the cookie that gets created browsing into HPSIM and let it recreate the cookie. See if that helps...

-Darrin
