A Couple of comments---
--the affected servers are running the newer BIOS version
--a case opened with HP resulted in the advice to backrev to 7.70. That "fixed" the problem, but was not a very satisfactory answer.
Regards, Chris G.

Hello--
We had psp 7.70, which worked. Installed 7.80 on a DL380/NW6.5sp5 server and the web access "Management Agents" pages have a possible issue:

--with 7.70 the server showed all OK. But with 7.80, the "Environment" shows as "Failed."

Compare FANS in:-----------7.70 vs. 7.80
1 CPU (Absent)----------Unknown vs. Degraded
2 CPU (Present)--------------OK vs. OK
3 IO Board (Absent)-----Unknown vs. Failed
4 IO Board (Present)---------OK vs. OK
5 CPU (Present)--------------OK vs. OK
6 CPU (Present)--------------OK vs. OK
7 Power Supply (Present)-----OK vs. OK
8 Power Supply (Absent)-Unknown vs. Failed

So it appears to be reporting "absent" items as "failed" or "degraded?"
Regards, Chris G

Unfortunately the servers, belonging to a customer, are DL380 G3:s and they have passed the three year mark and have no valid support agreement left.

I could probably log a call using another customers servers that are newer, and does have valid support agreements, but I would prefer not to involve them in this matter.

Thanks for the quick reply though.

I have just tried PSP 791a but that still installs the system management homepage version 7.90a which still shows the symptoms, unfortunetley none of my G2 & G3's are under warranty with HP :( so i can't log a call about this against these servers, do you know if you can log a call for insight manager even though its a "free" piece of software ??

ok i have had a look at 2 of my G3's one is showing this problem and the other isnt, all i can see thats different is that the one that is failing is running bios version "P29-09/15/2004" and the one that is working is running an older bios version of "P29-05/01/2004"

What bios versions are you guys running ?

I think there's a programming error in one of the agents. I run serveral Netware 6.5sp6 servers with PSP791, and all the ML370 report fan error's; the ML350 report fine.
So I use the following 4 NLM's from PSP770 (CPQHLTH.NLM, CPQHTHSA.NLM, CPQBSSA.NLM and CPQRISA.NLM) in my production environment (of course after testing it on a test ML370), and my servers reporting status OK.
Remark: I've not tested a disconnected fan or so

Good luck and on to PSP792?

According to our research in our labs, this issue is being happening with every new PSP version after the 7.70. This both affects the DL380 series, showing CPUs and Power Supplies in a degraded status, when they are not present, and in the ML350 G5 (researching for some other servers to include in the scope if required), showing a â Fan Degraded Statusâ when not present, or the Overall Thermal Status as â Failedâ .

The cause of this â error messageâ is not the drivers or the SMHP, but the Management Agents. The following agents are the responsible for this issue:

CPQBSSA - HP Insight Management Base System Agent
CPQRISA - HP Insight Management Remote Insight Agent
CPQHTHSA - HP Insight Management Health Agent
CPQTHRSA - HP Insight Management Threshold Agent

The issue was detected and escalated to engineering since the PSP 7.80 & 7.90, and with the new release of the 8.00 have been a little improvement in the fans problem, but havenâ t been fully solved.

At this point, the workaround to make the SMHP show the proper information is use the SM Agent included on the PSP 7.70. The only agent required to be downgraded are the listed above, nonetheless the PSP could be fully apply, but this will downgrade SHMP and drivers too.

This is the current resolution, until engineering release a new set of agents that fix this issue on this specific servers.
