Reclassifying Service Events

Hi guys, hope you're doing good.

I'm redeploying SIM in our environment, and as part of this I have been reclassifying SNMP alerts so that they make sense to us and fit in with what we need. For example, I don't care that a library door is open, so I have reclassified that as Informational.

Does anyone know how I can do the same thing with Service events? Again, although I have reclassified the Library Door Open SNMP alert as informational, we still get a service event for the same marked as minor - I would like to change this to informational so it doesn't bother us, or simply mark it as cleared so we don't see it.

Does anyone have any ideas that could help us resolve this? The Service Events are a very nice feature we would like to use, but until we can reclassify the ones we don't need we're unable to go live with the system.

The only way I have found to reclassify an event to wait until I receive an alert. You can see which mib the alert came from. Then change then reclassify the event in HPSIM.

If someone know of an easier way to accomplish this I am all ears!

It's generally not a good idea to edit the MIBs to make your changes--when MIB updates are published, you'll find yourself having to duplicate your edits all over again. The recommended way is to leave the classifications alone--they're classified that way on purpose. Then you can use Automatic Event Handling to determine how you want to respond. If there are events that you aren't interested in, simply create an AEH task to clear the event.

Be warned, however! There is more than one story of an admin who wasn't interested in what seemed like an innocuous event who found out the hard way that snowballs can turn into avalanches...
