It does self identify, but when I open the SMH, there are several features missing, especially under settings. On hardware servers, I can specify something in the Product Description field, on VMs I cannot.

I have realized that on Virtual Machines the Foundation Agent is not installed and in Insight Manager the Produdct Description field isn't available. Is there something we need to install on VM guests in order to have this functionality?

WMI needs to be enabled for HP SIM to gather information on virtual machines. It should then self-identify as "Virtual Machine" for MSVS and "VMware Virtual Platform" on ESX.

If you have installed the SMH on the virtual machine, un-install it. There's nothing for it to host. No agentware is required or provided for virtual machines.
