Is the new version of VCA supported on windows 2000 Server SP4? The release notes do not mention a change in support. I have the previous version 2.1.8.780 installed fine on all my 2000 servers. But the new version currently fails.

Command Line Parameters Given: /silent

Name: HP Version Control Agent for Windows
New Version: 2.1.9.790

Beginning Silent Session...

The software is not supported for installation on this system.

The current operating system version or service pack level is not
supported.

Installation will not continue.

The operation was not successful.

File cp007755.exe
Name HP Version Control Agent for Windows Version 2.1.9.790
Version 2.1.9.790
Languages English (US), Japanese
Release Date 8/20/2007

Version 2.1.9.790 (Contains Major Bug Fixes)
Fixes

Fixed a defect where Version Control Agent (VCA) incorrectly reports an inactive or obsolete Software and Drivers that are not actually required to be installed on ProLiant Servers, causing Overall status display as yellow (Degraded).

Be careful about installing the 7.8 PSP because even though this is the latest version and there is no step up version currently, it lists the 7.8 version of the VCA as a critical update needing attention even though you can't update it. I stayed with version PSP 7.6 on my 2000 boxes.

We did not install the 7.8 PSP on our W2K servers because it is not supported. 7.60 is the last PSP for this OS. However, there were just one or two updates that came out that were supported that we applied. We only had trouble with the 2.1.8.780 VCA on a couple of older servers.

This will be corrected in the VCA 2.1.9.791 to be released with the 7.91 PSP.

You can install it on Windows 2000 by extracting the files from the component, and executing the MSI (and not the exe).

Another workaround is to extract the package contents, open cp007755.xml, and in the <SUPPORTED_OPERATING_SYSTEMS> section, add the following line:
<SUPPORTED_OPERATING_SYSTEM platform="nt" major="5" minor="0" sr="OEM"></SUPPORTED_OPERATING_SYSTEM>
then run cpqsetup.exe.

Earlier in the same file, the human-readable descriptions cite Windows 2000 as a supported OS, so there's clearly a mismatch of some sort.</SUPPORTED_OPERATING_SYSTEMS>

As previously discussed modify the cp007755.xml and using a compression tool such as WinRAR replace the original in the cp007755.exe package. I have tested this on our 2000 servers and works great :) Finally get all green on Insight Manager :D

Joel, any update on this, I noticed that 7.91 is released but I can only find it for W2K3 and W2K3x64, there's nothing on HP's download site for W2K ?
