Hi All,

How do I change the severity of the 'System Unreachable' notification ?

I've had a look under Options, Events, SNMP Trap Settings, but no joy.

Thanks,

Steve

Hi,

I believe the "System Reachable" and "System Unreachable" events are not SNMP based. I believe these are generated by HP SIM performing a polling task, not a managed node sending an SNMP trap (if it was unreachable, how could it send a trap). HP - correct me if I am wrong.

That being said, I don't think you can change these "values" - they are probably built into the product. At least, you can not change them using the SNMP Trap settings you are describing, since they are not SNMP based.

But - I have been wrong before :) Just ask my wife.

Nelson

Thanks for this.

What I'm looking to do is exclude the 'System Unreachable' alerts from the 'Critical' classification as we have SolarWinds doing this task for us and using SIM for H/W management...

Anyone else know?

Cheers,

Steve

Hi!

I do not think that you can change the severity of the event, but you can turn off the event notice itself.
If you Select "Options-Events-Status Change Event Settings", then deselecting the "Enable creation of system status change events" will turn off the unreachable-reachable event notice.

The system Unreachable is generated as a result of the Hardware Polling task. As mentioned above it doesn't rely on the hardware itself generating the snmp trap.

If you don't want HPSIM to monitor the hardware for up / down you could disable this task. You'd keep the data collection, discovery tasks going to keep the data.
You can use auto event handling to notify you on all critical events and then add a line to exclude unreacheable events. I've attached a screenshot on how to do this.
