hp sim 5.1 sp1 installation problem win2003sp2

hi
when trying to install sim 5.1sp1 i get prompt that i need mdac 2.7 sp1 or later .

windows2003 sp2 includes mdac2.8 -but when i check with mdac checker i get unknow mdac version

please help

Try installating MDAC 2.8 again on the system. Then check the version of MDAC.

Thanks for your replay

when checking my server for mdac version i get unknown

trying to reinstall - actually don't install it (even when it prompt installation succeded) .

after it i still get mdac=unknown

i think that my server is to blame
