Yes, OpenSSH is used on the CMS for some tasks, such as initial PSP deployment. OpenSSH is not required to be installed on the managed system, however.

Note there are some setup issues with OpenSSH documented in the readme that may explain the authentication error that is seen. In particular, if SIM was installed by a user other than 'Administrator' then there is an extra step to configure access for this account with mxagentconfig.

Cheers,
Brian.

Hi,

I try to set up SIM 4.1. I've got some system discovered (HP d530) but when I try to deploy software I get "Failed" status. Funny thing is that in Task result in field Target displayed is server with SIM installed on it even if I choose any other system/desktop.
Any ideas ?

Piotr

Is this the initial PSP install you're trying to deploy? If so, are you scheduling it or selecting "Run now"?
I thought there was an issue with running it now, but scheduling it to run in 2 minutes worked? May be wrong =)

Yes, this is initial PSP installation, but even if I schedule this task to run in 10 minutes it failed too. I notice some error message on task result page at the bottom in Stderr section:

"EXCEPTION CLASS: com.hp.mx.exceptions.MxFailedAuthenticationException
EXCEPTION: Authentication failed."

I'm sure, I gave correct credentials (with admin rights on target system, including correct domain name (I try with local admin credentials too)) so I have no idea what can be wrong - maybe bug ?

Greetings
Piotr
Two things:

First, the *PROLIANT* Support Pack is only for ProLiant servers, and is not to be installed on an HP Compaq Business Desktop d530

Secondly, the error message is not related to the credentials you typed in, but rather hpSIM is not able to communicate with OpenSSH on the central management server.

So OpenSSH is required on the CMS to use Deploy?
So far I've been using the remote deployment utility (just setup.exe) and only had a few issues..
I have the same problem. I am trying to install it on a DL 380 G3. SSH is setup correctly--I can connect manually to this server with a SSH client. Everything seems to work--the files are downloaded and etc but when you hit run now the target is changed from what you want to the CMS server. I think there's something cache or a bug.

I have exactly the same problem. I've tried reinstalling OpenSSH. Everything looks okay but I get the error

EXCEPTION CLASS: com.hp.mx.exceptions.MxFailedAuthenticationException
EXCEPTION: Authentication failed.

And as above the target points to the SIM server instead of my selected target.

If anyone knows a solution it would be really appreciated

This is typically caused by OpenSSH not having the credentials that hpSIM is trying to supply. Use mxagentconfig to create a key with your OpenSSH. See the document, "Secure Shell (SSH) in HP Systems Insight Manager" at http://www.hp.com/servers/manage --> HP SIM --> Information Library for more information.
