Right now the integration is primarily with the ProLiant agents. OVOW includes this support natively (IIRC) so you should be getting that today.

OVOW 7.1 and later have an Insight Manager policy that is part of the Windows group. Part of the identification that OVOW goes through should automatically deploy these policies to the stations with the Insight agents.

The only special setup you may want to do is to have 'localhost' set as an SNMP trap destination...that way the OVOW agent's trap receiver can get it and carry it back to the OVOW station directly.

Hello,
I though that there was a special integration pack for SIM and OVOW (for example for the linux managed systems)

Regards

P.Pollet

So the assumption on David's reply is that OVOW agents sit on all the SIM managed systems - Is that right?

Has anyone tested the agent only installed on the SIM server forwarding messages to the OVOW console? Is so, how effective is it compared to SIM-OVOW agent communication?

Putting an OVO agent on the hpSIM central management server will only have the effect of making the CMS manageable by OVOW.

Forwarding an event received by the CMS to the OVO system will only make the events look like they are coming from the CMS, not the originating server (this behavior is changing in hpSIM 4.1, btw...).

You could have the individual managed servers send their traps directly to the OVO system (or in addition to the hpSIM CMS). The effect of that will simply be to direct SNMP traps that can be seen by the OVO trap receiver. It does not replicate the functionality of having an OVO agent on a managed system.

The purpose of integration is not to eliminate the OVO agent, but to enhance the information available to it.
