I have been pointed at the following update HP Insight Management Agents for Windows Server 2003/2008 8.1.0.0 24/04/2008. My case is being escalated but I was told that PSP 8.1 is just around the corner. I'll install the update and post back with results.

I have a problem connecting to the SMHP \\server:2381\
IE gives the cannot find message. However, the problem is not consistent, a reboot may resolve the issue for a while and then the problem re-occurs. Is there a service that may be failing here?

Hi, on checking the HP System Management Homepage service I find that it is running. A stop/start allowed connection again one time only. Subsequent connections show the basic Home page with no agents etc in the lefthand pane.

I have Proliant ML350-G3, running Windows Server 2003 as a DC. The latest PSP recently updated to 8.00 as the reference pack, SMHP is version 2.1.11.197. I have noticed that stop/start SMHP service appears to resolve the issue as all the agents re-appear. A logoff/logon produces an empty SMHP container again necessitating a restart of the service. I have forced a re-install of SMHP but will probably need to do a reboot to ensure all is OK even though the install returned code 1. I will not be able to do that until later today. All other items installed from PSP are showing green.

I have the same problem on 2 BL20P G4 blades. Restarting the service resolves the issue for one access of the homepage and then its dead again. We've reinstalled the entire PSP 8.00 package multilple times and still have the same problem. SMH is version 2.1.11.197. We also have upgraded a BL20P G3 from 7.91 to 8.00 and it is working fine.

The two servers that are failing are running W2K3 SP2 and the one that works is W2K3 SP1. I wonder if its got something to do with the service pack?

I too am experiencing this issue. I've installed PSP 8.0A on multiple servers (ProLiant BL460c G1) and everything appeared to install fine. But SMH won't open - its as if it wasn't running. Checked the service and everything was fine. Restart the service and I am able to get into SMH. This always seems to happen after a reboot (since installing PSP 8.0A).
I've got 3 of these servers acting like this and possibly more. If I can't find a resolution soon I'm going to go back to PSP 7.91.

It would be nice to see a response from HP on this issue.
I plan on building out a new server and upgrading the PSP components one at a time to 8.00A to see when it begins to have a problem. I am not convinved that it is the Homepage bu itselfs that is causing it to be unresponsive.

OK, rebooted and get no access to SMHP. Did a stop/start on the SMHP service, got the one time only access, checked VCR was OK, and left it there. Went back a couple of hours later and the VCR page showed an internal server error, not much other detail. The actual W2K3 server was running just fine.
I guess from the response that there appears to be more to this. Will await an outcome from HP.

After installing the VC hotfix for 5.2, the problem seems to have gone away.

I am wondering if this is just a problem with 5.2 and 8.0 Agents. Maybe SIM is "poking" the 8.0 VCAgent incorrectly causing it to bomb the SMH...and the VC hotfix fixes this.

I know - pretty unlikely, but I can't explain otherwise why the problem seems fixed now...

Nelson
