thank you. is there a way to configure the action so that the text of the actual onscreen error is sent in the alert? for example the boot process is hung and the screen says "keyboard error, press F1 to continue"

ideally we would like this information sent via email to our service desk.
using insight manager, is there a way to be alerted on POST errors? for example, a server is rebooted and the boot process isnt successful bc the hard drive is bad... or a key is stuck and F1 has to be pressed before the boot process will continue. since the OS isnt loaded yet, is this possible?

A POST error is going to change the health of the system to a degraded state because of an entry in the IML. That will be visible when the system comes up. If the system is stuck at the F1 prompt and doesn't boot, the system will have a critical state.

You can choose to have these state changes become events under Options --> Events and then have an Action on Event that notifies you.
