Hi

yes there is !
the agent sits on the managed node (the client). It informs and gathers data for the CMS (central management server). The agent sends snmp traps to CMS to indicate hw failures, threshold passed to the CMS.

take a look at the following page to understand the HP SIM architecture :

http://docs.hp.com/en/418812-004/ch01s03.html

Regarding the SMA, is it a command view server ? or a storage server ? In both cases, HP SIM cannot be installed on them.

hope it helps

fred

Thanks Fred,
it's more clear for me now.
the SMA is a Command View Server

Well,

Then the HP SIM application and the command view server should not reside on the same platform. Doing this will end up in some wbem issues for Command view and the HP SIM (the wmi mapper one of its components will try to use the same wbem port 5989

see the following advisory :
http://www12.itrc.hp.com/service/cki/docDisplay.do?docLocale=en&docId=emr_na-c01364925-1

If you are planning to manage only a few servers and so storage possibly, I suppose that a recent desktop would do. Again it will also depend on what you want to achieve in terms of managing these 8 integrity servers ( whether they are running windows, linux, or HP-UX)

hope it helps

fred
