topic HPSIM 4.1 and MSDE in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

Every time I try and install HPSIM 4.1, I get an error after filling in the Database Configuration screen. I can only put in the Password and the Database Server name. If I type the wrong password it says incorrect password, but if I put everything in correctly it comes up with - HP Systems Insight Manager was unable to connect to the specified database server...etc..... The thing is if I install IM7 SP2.3 it works fine with MSDE and creates the database, as soon as I try HPSIM 4.0 or 4.1 it fails with the above error. It is running on a Windows 2003 Server. I have also done all the MSDE settings so I can even control the MSDE Server from another workstation with the SQL Enterprise Manager.

I am having the exact same issue, except in my case 4.0 was working then when I removed it and attempted intstalled 4.1 that is when I encountered the issue.

After I unistalled MSDE and attempted re-install of 4.0, now that one has the same issue.

Mine is on Win2k AS.

Yep, thats the same as me, removed HPSIM 4.0 and I cannot get HPSIM 4.0 or HPSIM 4.1 to connect to any SQL Server. At least that rules out Windows 2003 Server. Has anyone come accross something to remove anything to do with HPSIM?

Has everyone gone in and made sure all of the directories relating mssql have been removed? I have learned those left behind directories and reg keys from an uninstall can be a problem with re-installation.
I had the same problems until I un-installed EVERYTHING, agents and all. I then rebooted, deleted all the mssql directories, agent directories and the HP directories. I rebooted again just to be sure then logged in as administrator rather than my account which was in the admin group.

Having the same problem, win2k3. Uninstalled 4.0 to install 4.1 now it will not connect a database, local or remote. Tried it on a different server and it was fine. Tech support could not come up with an answer and I was on the phone for two hours.

It is something on the server but not sure what. About ready to uninstall everything and try again, was trying to keep the repository, but guess it does not matter if HPSim will not work.
