topic Can Version Control be updated by HP Internet server? in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

Hi,

I have a few HP servers in different countries.
Some of these sites are so small that we cannot setup a HP Systems Insight Manager machine in that site.

Since the HP server with HP Systems Management Home Page and Version Control Agent is setup in the remote site, I would like to be able to update the firmware and latest Windows drivers periodically.

Since there is not SIM server in that site with Version Control Repository, I cannot use the Version Control Agent to update the server.

Is it possible to define an Internet based HP server as the Version Control Repository Manager computer???

It would make it easier for us to update remote servers in smaller sites where we do not have extra hardware to setup a SIM, but we do have access and we do want to keep our server up to date.

First of all I would not really recommend doing such major upgrades to a server when you're not onsite.

Do you not really need a Version Control Agent. Just install the latest Support Pack which you can download from the HP Support & Drivers site.

To upgrade your servers firmware you could use ILO so you can see the console while upgrading.

However.. I wouldn't upgrade if it isn't really necessary.

So if I forget updating the firmware.

Your suggestion is that I can just download the latest Support Pack and install it over what is already there?

That's correct. If you want to play save you might call the 'other site' to break the mirror, so you can return to a previous state if upgrading the Support Pack goes wrong.
