It is a DL 380. But it is a VMWare ESX server. Could that be the problem? If so, what can i do to fix it?

You need to install the hp management agent on to the vmware server and that will monitor the hardware.

latest here for esx 3.5
http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareDescription.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&prodTypeId=3709945&prodSeriesId=1842753&prodNameId=3288152&swEnvOID=4025&swLang=8&mode=2&taskId=135&swItem=MTX-7324eb54248d41b9a356236889

steven

So you can not use HP SIM to monitor a server's health which has VMWare installed? The VMWare ESX software installs the HP agent and the ESX interface monitors the health?

You install the agents as described above.
The agents are configured to send SNMP Traps if they detect a hardware issue. HPSIM polls to ensure the server is available.
This is the same process for Windows, ESX and Linux on HP Proliant servers.

The installation is different on ESX. I recommend extracting the file and then editing up the hpmgmt.conf file as described in the README file and using that in a silent install.
