topic Server restarts in Server Management - Systems Insight Manager

Hi,

A quick question with Event Notification and HP SIM.

I'm receiving alerts for items such as Discovery, power supply issues, RIB events, and System Unreachable via ICMP health checks.

I have noticed, on several occasions, that I am not receiving alerts for servers that are rebooted by the Admin or products such as Systems Management Server.

I was thinking, at the very least, I'd receive notification from the ICMP checks (interval is the default at 5 seconds) in the Global Props settings.

All severity levels of registered events are selected.

Is there something else I can verify against?

Thanks.

seabass,
the best way to do this is to reclassify the SNMP Cold Start notification from informational to Critical. This notification signifies that the SNMP Trap service has started on the host (and thus is a usually pretty reliable indicator that the server has restarted)

go to Options - SNMP Trap Settings
Select the following

MIB NAME: rfc1215.mib
TRAP NAME: coldstart

set the severity to CRITICAL

rgds,
Actually,

I tested with this today. It seems that it will generate email alerts for anything SNMP related.

I had some Dell servers throw alerts for Power redundancy (benign error, firmware isssue).

I had a 380 G5 throw a Cold Start alert when one of the power cables was bumped during server work in our DC.

Not really what I was shooting for as we have SIM configured to email a DL for our group. I want to keep notification pretty tidy.
