I have been having a tough time installing SIM 4.1 and considered re-downloading the install executable when I read (again) the supported systems. For Windows 2000 Server, it specifically says SP3; do I have to back down from 4 to 3?

No. SP3 is stated as minimum. What exact problems are you having? I personally have done it several times without issue.

Hi David. I installed 4.1 on a W2k SP4 server. During installation I upgraded to MDAC 2.8, PMP 2.1, and JPI 1.4.2. I have tried both pointing to a remote SQL database and to a local MSDE and the installations go all the way. But when I try to start SIM (either with the icon on the CMS or via IE 6) it hangs.

I got the following event error on the CMS when trying to connect to the LOCAL MSDE:
"The description for Event ID ( 3 ) in Source ( HP Systems Insight Manager ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. The following information is part of the event: HP Systems Insight Manager Service Stopped"

I also get similar event errors for sshd and Opensshd.

Any help is deeply appreciated; I'm about ready to go back to CIM7.

I haven't run into that before, but I notice you say you installed PMP 2.1. You should only use the PMP 3.0 that is part of the hpSIM 4.01 download. It is possible that is the source of the problem.
