Well actually, it will only run when 'new items are added/removed from the group'. When a new server is built of say windows 2003, it will be placed into the windows server 2003 group and will trigger this task to run against only that server

;)

I would like to further automate deployment of our new servers. Our Altiris team did already put the PSP (incl. all settings modified to our specification via HPSUM, also HP SIM management server certificate) and SNMP-settings. Last thing I would like to have automated is the setting of the Reference Support Pack in the VC-agent settings. HPSUM doesn't provide to set this setting. Is there any other way to put this Reference Support Pack setting in our server installation via Altiris?

Thanks in advance for helping me out.

Hi! Fairly straight forward. I create 3 dynamic groups base don OS:

1) Windows 2008
2) Windows 2003
3) Windows 2000

I create a scheduled task to replicate the VCA settings to each group when a new server is placed in them. Each task sets the VCA Ref pack appropriately. As long as when you build your servers they all trust the CMS server it works a treat!

Thanks for your suggestion!

But this is not what I had in mind...
I thought of building-in some kind of edited config file in our Altiris 'new server deployement' routine to set the reference support pack. That way I never ever have to think to schedule replication and new servers automatically have the Reference Support Pack set.

Your suggestion is although a nice work-a-round in case I don't find another solution. Of course I can schedule it to run every night so I don't have to look after it. But this means every night all our 1000+ servers will be reset with new replicated settings. This only to set one or two new servers. If weekely (or even daily) scheduled this also will prevent to see the actual status immediately.

Any other suggestions?

Thnx
Perry.
