Is your SIM software polling active? It sounds like you're only getting traps and that the polling process isn't running.

-Matt

I am using HP SIM 4.2 SP2. I get email alerts from time to time e.g disk has failed/redundant power failure - this works

However I only get emails about Critical firmware updates after I have actually logged onto the system management hompage of an individual server. For example today i looged onto a servers hompage then I went to the Version control agent to take a look. I then get an email telling me there is an urgent firmware update.

Surely I shouldn't have to log on to the hompage to get this- I should be getting emailed automatically? Is this a bug?

Has anybody else got this issue?

Software version status polling ( if this is what you mean) is a task that is created by default when you install HP sim and it runs once a week. Looking at it it has been running fine, but I can't really think this is the problem. Maybe I should set it to run every day?

Hi Peter -

You should set it to however often you are receiving Repository updates (obviously running after the updates occur).

Once a week is the default, but by that standard you will only get the critical update traps once a week as well -- quite possibly almost two weeks later if the run dates are backwards (i.e., polling runs the night before Repository updates).

Running them both nightly will ensure you have an up-to-date repository and alerts within 24 hours of an update.

-Matt

As far as I can tell, the VCA has an issue sending WBEM indications on its own and won't do so until you've logged in to the interface via SMH. Note that the same problem does not occur if you switch to SNMP for the SHM data source.

-Matt

Sorry, in the System Management Homepage on the systems. You can also run a Configure or Repair Agents task to change the setting globally.
