      <description>The battery maintains the contents of the cache.  If power were to fail before a write were completed, the contents would be able to be flushed to the drives when power is returned.  Potentially, if the system the drives/cache are in a system that goes completely toes up, the cache with battery and the drives can be transferred to a similar system to complete the write.</description>
