Yeah sadly there is really big room for improvement in regards to SIM and HP-UX servers...

So anyway I digged around a in SIM and in the file
config\identification\noderelationships\basicNodeRelationships.xml
there is this section:

<ASSOCIATIONHANDLER>

<DEVICETYPE>Server</DEVICETYPE>
<ASSOCIATIONDATAHANDLER>com.hp.mx.core.tools.identification.associations.MPtoServersHandler</ASSOCIATIONDATAHANDLER>
<ASSOCIATIONTYPELIST>
<ASSOCIATIONTYPE>MgmtProcToServer_IPF</ASSOCIATIONTYPE>
<ASSOCIATIONTYPE>MgmtProcToServer_PA</ASSOCIATIONTYPE>
<ASSOCIATIONTYPE>MgmtProcToServer_Complex</ASSOCIATIONTYPE>
</ASSOCIATIONTYPELIST>
</ASSOCIATIONHANDLER>

So how can I find out more about com.hp.mx.core.tools.identification.associations.MPtoServersHandler? Maybe some logfiles somewhere?

How does SIM decide when to associate a Management Processor (MP) with a system?

On the ProLiants every iLO has been associated perfectly. With the HP-UX systems it is hit and miss, even on "identical" systems some get linked and some don't (for example of 30 rx4640 only 3 have a MP associated :)

Running SIM 5.3 with SP1 - Windows

Thanks!

Thanks for the replies Daniel.

I have HP-UX 11.11, 11.23 and 11.31 in SIM.

11.11 and PA-RISC will never work, these have ancient management processors (called GSP).

This is about the 11.23 and 11.31 systems on Integrity Hardware (iLO for Integrity aka MP) that most of the time do not get associated.

The thread you mentioned is about ProLiant Hardware, which is totally different. SIM gets its ProLiant iLO associations by retrieving https://<ILO>/xmldata?item=all but there seems to be no similiar functionality in Integrity iLO... So I wonder how MPtoServersHandler does it.</ILO>

With the help of this thread http://forums.itrc.hp.com/service/forums/questionanswer.do?threadId=1171174
I did find out some more about this issue. Some of the unassociated MPs are missing the "System Subtype" setting of
"HP Single Partition Server, Management Processor".

Setting the subtype manually and verifying with "mxnode -ld <MP-HOSTNAME>" that "Device subtype: MP-SPS" is set, then re-identifying in SIM, the association is made.

As said in the other thread this can be verified with "mxnode -ld" of the MP and system and checking for "MP_IPF_UUID" and "IdentificationNumber".

But a lot of my other MPs are still not associateed because they are missing the "MP_IPF_UUID" although the subtype is correct. No idea what that could be, maybe I will open a case.</MP-HOSTNAME>
