Hi Experts,

We have OV operations manager on unix monitoring around 600 Windows(2003) severs.

Is it possible to integrate & forward hardware failure alerts from Insight Manager to OVO

Thanks

Hi,

I had had an experience this case. We configured following setting.

Systems Insight Manager
1. Configure forward received all events to Windows Event Log.

Operations Manager
2. Create Windows event log policy for monitoring event which is created from Systems Insight Manager (source target).
3. Deploy Agent and the policy on SIM server.

regards,

How about HP SIM, is it free tool or do we need to buy this from HP?

Hi,

HP SIM is an easy tool to bulk configure Insight agents and much more. But not really necessary to get Insight hardware traps into OVO.

Here some tips to get Insight agent traps into OVO:

- If you don't have these in OVO yet: Download the HP Insight SPI, and distribute the Insight templates included to you OVO agents on the managed nodes (later can be edited en redistributed to fine tune)
- Instruct the SNMP service/deamon to trap to itselve (localhost). The OVO SNMP trap interceptor agent will catch these and sends them to the OVO management server, even within HTTPS if you are using this! This is far better then trapping to the OVO management server directly: No lost of traps (because traps are UDP and agent-server communication is TCP + buffered) and local agents do all the work, OVO mgmt server only displays messages.

Success!

Cheers,

Perry.

PS If you don't have the Insight SPI for OVO and you want a simple solution download the newest Insight mib packet form HP and translate these to templates using opc2trap command.
