I have checked the management agents are running on the servers, the mp shows up on the system management homepage as green. This problem relates to both ILO and RIBIIs.

I have pointed the insight agents on the mp to its host, also set the return information to high. Is there something in the XML reply that will enable me to track if it is going to show up in CIM as present?

Are there any additional data collection tasks that should be running daily or twice daily. Currently I have Software Version Status and the Data Collection tasks running every night.

Why do some management processors appear as undiscovered on the CIM console (Blue Dots.) I have checked the local agents and they are all started, yet the CIM server still cannot discover a management processor in the server. This applies to both ILO and RIBII.

I don't know why this happens as I've never seen it here.

I follow the following guidelines for setting up LO Cards and IM.

Set permanent IP Addresses on the LO Cards, I only use DHCP for getting the initial LO IP Address.
Ensure these IP Addresses are in the Auto-Discovery range.
Rerun Auto-Discovery and Device Identification tasks.

All of our MPs are set for static addresses as we do not use DHCP in our data centers. All of the SNMP community strings are configured the same for all servers. Even though a blue dot appears for the mp in CIM, when checking the system management home page for the server, it reports a MP there and all is green and beautifull. We have the same revisions of firmware on all the mps, some are showing up in CIM, others are blue dots.

I've also found that you need to manually add Remote Insight in to the Agents. And sometimes they get dropped out again.

Go to Control Pannel and run the HP Management Agents Gui and check that Remote Insight is included in the items to monitor.

The MP column does not represent a discovered management processor; it represents the ASSOCIATION of a management processor with a server.

If the management processor hasn't been discovered (it has its own IP address and must exist in hpSIM in its own right), it can't be associated. You need to make sure that there is a device entry for the MP either by running and examing the 'All Management Processors' list or by searching for the device by name.

On the RILOE II and iLO, the association is made during 'Device Identification' tasks as hpSIM queries and receives an XML packet back from the management processor. To maximize the ability to do this association, under Administration-->SNMP/Insight Manager settings have the 'Level of Data Returned' set to 'High'

Lee,
Here HPSIM made the associations itself.
As noted above, check that Remote Insight has been added into the Agent.

Check the IP Addresses of the LO Cards are included in the Auto-Discovery range.

Rerun Auto-Discovery.

That's all I've had to do with both ILO and RILOE II Cards.
Obviously your LO Cards need to be connected to the Network.
