Hi Robert.

We had a similar issue on some of our servers where the culprit was an extension agent in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP\Parameters\ExtensionAgents

If it's the case (our error was not exactly the same) the solution is to export this key then remove some of the agents, restart SNMP and see if it solves the problem.
If it persists, add the removed keys back using the .reg file then remove other agents until you find the one that is the culprit, if the problem is in this key of course.

We are running into an issue where the SNMP server stops for no particular reason. We are starting to point to the HP Agents as one possible casue, but I can't be certain about this at this time. The error in the event log is always:

Faulting application snmp.exe, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e02e1c, faulting module ntdll.dll, version 6.0.6002.18005, time stamp 0x49e0421d, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x0000000000049853, process id 0x1018, application start time 0x01cacab04c779573.

Most of the time it restarts but there are more than enough times that it just doesn't restart because it did not start after the second attempt. Is anyone experiencing or experienced this issue and found it to be the HP agents. We have other applications that are using the SNMP (Solarwinds) but it is agentless.

I have this problem with the following environment:

Windows 2008 on the Guest
HP ProLiant DL380 G6 for the Guest
HP SIM 5.2 SP2

When SIM does a "Data Collection" job on a DL380 G6, it causes the SNMP service to fail.

I have never found a solution for this - hopefully SIM 6 will resolve this. I don't have this problem with any other model of servers - only DL380 G6.

Nelson

I am also working with our local contact for HPSIM on this but so far there are not advisories etc out on this. The only thing in common are they are DL380 G6 boxes, the snmp service terminates on these boxes frequently throught the day and we this is happening on 2003 x 64 and 2008 x64 versions of M$.

I have HPSIM 6 installed and have 5 of the 2008 boxes on this version of HPSIM and it happens with this version of HPSIM also so it really apears to be related to th 8.30 version of the agents with HPSIM involved.

Ok, now I will add that it is also in 2003 SP2 x32 that is is happening. This particular box is also a G6. So the only thing in common is that that they are G6's

We were experiencing this very issue with the deployment of numerous DL360 G6s. We upgraded our SIM to v5.3 Sp1 and this resolved the problem with SNMP stopping. That was 3 months ago and haven't had a problem since.
